This is a quick guide to installing LightScribe system and labeling software for a LightScribe-enabled optical disk writer on a Gentoo box. The guide assumes use of RPM packages.

[edit] Software

  • RPM Package Manager: emerge app-arch/rpm
  • LightScribe System Software and LightScribe Simple Labeler from LightScribe
  • LaCie LightScribe Labeler from LaCie

[edit] Installation

Move the downloaded packages to /usr/local/bin, for example. Install:

/usr/local/bin $ rpm -iv lightscribe
/usr/local/bin $ rpm -iv lightscribe_host_software

This should install two new commands: 4L-cli and 4L-gui. Running 4L-cli should produce a help screen with command options.
